DIY Recipes

 

A few of our favorite DIY items are listed below. We make these and use them at home so we hope you'll love them too!

NATURAL DEODORANT

INGREDIENTS: Coconut oil (can be medicinally infused prior to this), Beeswax, Essential Oil, Bicarbonate of Soda, Arrow Root Powder (corn flour can work but is irritating for some people – pesticides, GMO etc.), and Vitamin E Oil (tocopheral type). If you don’t want a Coconut scent in your medicine, use refined unscented coconut oil

METHOD:

  1. Add 20g of Beeswax to a double boiler or glass beaker/jar inside a pot of simmering water and melt to form a liquid. Be careful not to let any water enter your preparation
  2. Add 80g of Coconut Oil to the beaker and stir until mixed well and is in liquid oil form
  3. Add 30g of Bicarbonate of Soda and stir
  4. Add 30g of Arrow Root Powder and stir
  5. Add 15-20 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil
  6. Add 15-20 drops of the Essential Oils of your choice or leave it out for a more plain-scented deodorant. Lavender, Peppermint and Sandalwood is a great example of a  Men’s Deodorant. Ladies might try Vanilla, Rose and Blood Orange as a blend
  7. Remove from the simmering water and dry off immediately. Be careful not to burn yourself on the hot glass. Make sure no water enters your preparation as this will make it spoil sooner
  8. Immediately after drying, pour the liquid preparation into the container of your choice. A second option here - you could also wait until the moment when the preparation is solid enough to keep the particles suspended, stir, and then pour into final container/s, but timing is often tricky with this. The latter method is mainly used when you have multiple containers to pour into
  9. Wait a few minutes for it to cool down and begin to solidify. As it cools you need to stir up the Bicarb and Arrow Root particles just before it sets so they remain suspended in the preparation. Stir until you can see the preparation is solid enough to keep the particles suspended without them falling to the bottom
  10. Once cooled your Natural Deodorant is ready for use! This is extremely effective and can keep unwanted odors away for up to 48 hours

 

NATURAL SOLID PERFUME

  1. Add 30g of Beeswax to a double boiler or glass beaker/jar inside a pot of simmering water and melt to form a liquid. Be careful not to let any water enter your preparation
  2. Add 70g of Coconut Oil, refined if you don’t want a Coconut Scent to your perfume
  3. Add 50-60 drops of your Essential Oil or the combination of your choice, then stir. Frangipani and Ylang-Ylang are a beautiful combination
  4. Remove the beaker from the simmering water and dry off immediately. Be careful not to burn yourself on the hot glass. Make sure no water enters your preparation as this will make it spoil sooner
  5. While still hot and in liquid form, pour into the final container/s of your choice.
  6. Wait a few minutes for it to cool down and solidify
  7. Congrats, you have made Natural Dry Perfume
